GULAYAN SA PAARALAN

BEST PRACTICES IN GULAYAN SA PAARALAN

The vegetables and plants planted in Fourth Estate Elementary School are Eggplant, Lady’s fingers, Pechay , Horseradish, Chili pepper, Bell Pepper, String beans, Water Spinach (Kangkong), Native Spinach (Kulitis), Nalta jute (Saluyot), Peanut, Sponge gourd (Patola), Bitter gourd (Ampalaya), Sweet Potato (Kamote), , Malabar Night Shade (Alugbati), Squash, Gabi, Ginger, Fragrant Screwpine (Pandan), Lemon Grass  as well as tomatoes. We also have fruit bearing trees such as Mango, Avocado, Star Apple, Kalamansi, Grapes, Atis and Lemon. We have hydrophonics, and Tilapia.

Teachers as well as the pupils find accurate place suited for the vegetables so that they will grow faster and safe even it was located at the back of our building which has a very limited space we all still enjoyed planting and helped each other to support our feeding program. Our Feeding Program benefited from the gulayan sa Paaralan because some of the vegetables that we cooked just harvested from our own vegetable garden.

Gardening enlightens and teaches our beloved pupils to plant more vegetables not only in the school but also in the community, which we are planning to have a tree planting activity in cooperation with our Boy Scout Pupils.

By having “Gulayan sa Paaralan” pupils will learn to plant vegetables in their backyard that can be a source of food for their family.

Gulayan sa Paaralan is one of the activities that is very crucial to make our vegetables free from destruction and make it a point that pupils understand the importance of vegetables in our body.

For an urban place having a Gulayan sa Paaralan Program is such a challenge in every school, considering the fact that we have a limited space in our school.  We also need to make our pupils aware of the different benefits or importance of this program in our school and also the different tools, equipment and knowledge that we need to fully understand what Gulayan sa Paaralan is all about.

The “Gulayan sa Paaralan” project when fully implemented will not only benefit the school and its studentry but also the community because the project will serve as an inspiration for the community and awaken their consciousness on the effect of a green environment.

To end, the “Gulayan sa Paaralan” is a multi-beneficial project to the school, the student populace in terms of nutritional benefits and the monetary consideration it will bring about by its surplus, It will be a community-wide benefit for all, for it will not only touch on the physical attributes but also awaken the mental and psychological attributes of the community and thus ensure self-sustainability and progress.
