In the Philippines, National Children’s Month is celebrated in November under the Republic Act No. 10661 to commemorate the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) by the United Nation (UN) General Assembly on November 20, 1989.
Fourth Estate Elementary School, headed by Teresita S. Rodriguez, joins and supports the call to prioritize the mental health and well-being of children amidst the pandemic as implied in the theme “Kalusugan, Kaisipan ng Bawat Bata Ating Tutukan”.
A simple yet substantial school-based kick-off celebration was held on November 9, showcasing the children’s talent in dancing including the learners with special needs and increasing awareness of the children’s rights and responsibilities through a very comprehensive and interesting video presentation. In addition, teachers will be having a forum to parents on child protection policy to be held on November 12, 2022.
Other school-based activities include Zumba for Learners (Grades 1 – 3) which aims to boost the children’s mood, self-confidence, self-esteem, and flexibility through full body workout on November 11, 21, and 24 respectively; Poster Making Contest with a goal to bring out the creative expression of intermediate learners towards the theme “Karapatang Pambata Ating Pahalagahan para sa Magandang Kinabukasan”; and Singing Contest to promote self-confidence and self-esteem of learners from Grades 1 – 6 with potential in singing. To enhance the social skills of every child, thus increasing his/her physical, mental, emotional, social, and moral vitality and establish good relationship with others through games, Palarong Pambatang Pinoy for Kinder pupils and Grades 5 and 6 learners will take place on the 18th and 25th of the month. On November 23, Save the Children will hold a Palarong Pambata for the learners with special needs to provide opportunities for them to have fun through simple games and at the same time develop camaraderie and sportsmanship among them. Araw ng Pagbasa will follow on the 28th.
This month-long celebration will be concluded on November 29 with a Closing Program to be facilitated by the EsP teachers led by the school’s EsP coordinator, Mary Grace D. Gojo-Cruz with the guidance of Cecilia M. Lumaban, master teacher.
