With the school closed due to the pandemic, the Fourth Estate Elementary School (FEES) continues to attend to the welfare of its pupils.
In coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWD) through the Schools Division of Paranaque, FEES takes care of the well-being and nutrition of its pupils through the continued implementation of the school- based feeding program.
Apolonia F. Soriano, principal of FEES emphasized that “It is now more than ever that we need to guard the health and nutrition of our pupils. This pandemic should not be a deterrent in ensuring that our kids get the best nutrition more than ever.”
The school-based feeding program is in compliance with Republic Act No. 11037 also known as the “Masustansiyang Pagkain Para sa Batang Pilipino Act”
The school’s SBFP coordinator Divina A. Huelgas and the school nurse, Mona Zheska N. Capistrano continues to serve 935 pupils from kindergarten to grade six who underwent assessment and qualified as beneficiaries based on their nutritional status.
The feeding program’s primary concern is to improve the nutritional, cognitive and academic performance of the identified pupils who fall under the wasted and severely wasted category in the nutritional status report.
The school also believes that the feeding program will greatly help the beneficiaries especially in this time of pandemic where many families were severely affected economically.
Every week, parents of the beneficiaries troop to school to receive the food packs which include nutri buns, cookies, and pasteurized milk. Health protocols and safety standards are strictly observed based on the alert level implemented in the city.
Michelle Ybanes, mother of one beneficiary quipped that “The buns and milk are really delicious, safe for the stomach and help our children improve their weight and become healthier.” She expressed her gratitude that because of the feeding program, her children are given the opportunity to taste nutritious and delicious food and milk.
“My children become more attentive and energetic in answering their modules because their stomachs are full”, Mrs. Maricel Ermino, another mother-beneficiary cited.
Truly, if we take care of our youth today, our future becomes brighter.
